    SASAK LANGUAGE AND TÉNDÉH MAINTAINING

Sasak is an indigenous language spoken mainly on Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara. It has various dialects used by its speakers to show téndéh ‘culture’. This working paper is an attempt to examine what téndéh culture values and how they are presented in Sasak language. This study shows that téndéh culture consists of honesty, leadership, religion, gotong royong and harmony, human rights equality, humanism, environment maintaining, ethos and economy, conflict resolution, and adat law values expressed by lexicons, phrases, sentences, and idioms

A SOCIAL CONTEXTOF SASAK PERSONAL PRONOUNS

Forms, meanings, dialects, and characteristics of Sasak language Pronouns were discussed by Nurhadi This ethnographical research gathered the information from the informants in a Bayan community in North Lombok, west Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The informants were selected in terms of their age, mobile and their speaking Indonesia ability. The language practices were observed and the informants were in-depth interviewed. Personal pronoun sentences were analysedby employing a referential identity method with deviding-key-factors techniques. Bayan people communicate pronouns in two directions: from low-to-high pronouns and high-to-low pronouns. low-to-high pronouns refers raden-to-menak and menak-to-jajar karang. high-to-low pronouns refers to jajar karang-to-menak and raden, menak-to-raden. Amonst the levels, they may speak pronouns variously, considering ages, position, and status. The personal pronouns they seem to apply are aku, tiang and dawek diq, kamu, epe, sida, pelinggih, and pelungguh. Social relation, and gender so far do not indicate an effect on applying personal pronouns

One-Step or Two-Step Optimization and the Overfitting Phenomenon: A Case Study on Time Series Classification

For the last few decades, optimization has been developing at a fast rate. Bio-inspired optimization algorithms are metaheuristics inspired by nature. These algorithms have been applied to solve different problems in engineering, economics, and other domains. Bio-inspired algorithms have also been applied in different branches of information technology such as networking and software engineering. Time series data mining is a field of information technology that has its share of these applications too. In previous works we showed how bio-inspired algorithms such as the genetic algorithms and differential evolution can be used to find the locations of the breakpoints used in the symbolic aggregate approximation of time series representation, and in another work we showed how we can utilize the particle swarm optimization, one of the famous bio-inspired algorithms, to set weights to the different segments in the symbolic aggregate approximation representation. In this paper we present, in two different approaches, a new meta optimization process that produces optimal locations of the breakpoints in addition to optimal weights of the segments. The experiments of time series classification task that we conducted show an interesting example of how the overfitting phenomenon, a frequently encountered problem in data mining which happens when the model overfits the training set, can interfere in the optimization process and hide the superior performance of an optimization algorithm

Assessment of Productivity Status Using Carlson’s TSI and Fish Diversity of Goronyo Dam, Sokoto State, Nigeria

Goronyo Dam is the largest lentic waterbody in Sokoto, it was constructed to serve as flood control and used for irrigation activities. The study was conducted to evaluate productivity status and fish diversity of Goronyo Dam in 2016. Water samples were collected monthly from the Dam at two sampling sites (Upstream and Downstream). Water samples were collected using sterilized sampling bottles and analyzed in the Laboratory for physicochemical variables and the diversity of fish was evaluated through the use of a structured questionnaire. Depth and transparency were the only variables that did not show any statistically significant difference between the months. Productivity status of the dam was evaluated using Carlson’s Trophic State Index. The downstream has high TSI value of 16.54 compared to upstream with 13.00. A diversity of fishes from the shows that 3 species were more abundant in the dam, these were; Mormyrops species, Alestes species and Clupeid species. Factors contributed to the survival of fish species were an abundance of water and plankton in the dam. While factors affecting the distribution of fish species were pollution and predation
